With 10 years of professional
media experience on her resume, it’s easy to focus on the more recent
accomplishments of Allison Rost. But that wouldn’t be doing her career
justice—and that's because it started in the third grade. That was when she began writing for her elementary school newsletter and started her own short-lived fashion magazine for the 8-year-old set. She also began photographing as an amateur at the age of 13 and published her first Web site before she graduated from high school.
That career began in newspapers,
where she covered features and education for the weeklies Sunnyvale Sun and Cupertino
Courier and the arts for The Daily
Tar Heel. In 2003, Allison received a Blue Ribbon Award in the
Business/Financial Category from the California Newspaper Publishers
Association, and a story she wrote in 2005 on No Child Left Behind earned her a
Certificate of Merit in that year’s California Teachers Association’s John Swett Awards. After moving to Los Angeles in 2005, she began working as an associate editor for the trade magazine publisher Creative Age Publications. Over four years at Nailpro and DAYSPA, Allison oversaw magazine departments and longer features that incorporated her investigative background, and began to explore her interest in design through styling monthly product sections. In addition, she also accepted the 2007
Maggie Award given to Nailpro for Best Beauty & Fashion/Trade
publication, a result of the staff’s hard work on the magazine’s first redesign
in years.
And now, everything has come full circle with Allison's position as communications associate at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in La Cañada Flintridge, Calif. Not only has her career brought her back to academia and where it all started, but her work with the website, school publications and photography marries all of her varied interests. As part of FSHA's development office, Allison reports on the activities and personalities on the 425-student all-girl campus to keep the local and school community connected.
A versatile media professional, Allison has worked in monthly, weekly, daily and hourly environments, and her areas of expertise range from business and education to beauty and fitness. In addition, as a native of the Silicon Valley, she carries a wide range of technical knowledge and seamlessly implements it with her work. Allison's taken and published her own photos, and shot and edited her own digital videos. Her self-taught web skills include designing full websites, including this one, and soliciting social media sources for increased interest across multiple publications.
